This is about looking at possibilities for airborne (and water) craft.
How about an electric / hybrid (small 10 hp engine) ultra-light? That has folding wings so I could carry it on top of a car?
With pontoons, so I could land on small lakes.
The tops of the wings would have solar panels for recharging the batteries.
It would carry extra fuel tanks (for a very long range). It would run on electric motor most of the time. It would have to weigh under 100 kg. The wings would have air-filled baffles like newer para-gliders have. A plane like this should cost under $12k. It could be stored in a regular garage, or in a large storage locker (at $100/mo).
“We Just Passed A Guy In A Jet Pack”: Pilots Report Sighting At 3,000 Feet
An American Airlines pilot claims he saw a man in a jet pack on Sunday night while he was on final approach near Los Angeles International Airport, according to the LA Times. The flight was American Airlines Flight 1997 from Philadelphia.
“Tower, American 1997. We just passed a guy in a jet pack,” the pilot is heard telling the tower at LAX. The tower responded: “American 1997, OK, thank you. Were they off to your left or right side?”
The pilot responded: “Off the left side, maybe 300 yards or so, about our altitude.”
A second pilot from a Jet Blue flight also confirmed seeing the person: “We just saw the guy pass us by in the jet pack.” “Only in L.A.,” the tower muttered.
Seth Young, a pilot and a professor of aviation at Ohio State University, told the NY Times: “The risk is obviously having a collision with that airplane or getting a drone, or the person getting ingested into an engine. We have these issues with birds flying within congested airspace, as well.”
An FBI spokesperson said: “We are aware of the reports by pilots on Sunday and are working to determine what occurred.”
