smart boats

There are some very innovative boats out there. Hybrid jet-skis could be used in all weathers, with windshields or enclosed cockpits. They could come in many shapes and sizes, such as with the jet-dinghys (jet-tenders).

Here’s Quadski, a a hybrid amphibious vehicle. The price new is around $ 50k, but there are deals on used ones.

It seems ideally suited to the person on a remote island or lake, with logging roads mostly. It would make a wilderness property pretty accessible as it gives the two options for obtaining basic supplies.

Camper boats look so functional. You just cruise to a nice place, drop anchor, and you’ve got a lavish suite to stay at. You’d probable want to make it a primary home. Just use a simple dinghy to get to shore and back.

With these boats, the main thing is you want it to not get stolen, as there seem to be some thieves on the waters at any time. Pirates, they used to be called. So you’d need a good security system, as well as a few tracker chips. Wherever the pirates went they could be tracked soon by police or coast guard.

Williams, a British company, makes jet-ski tenders, and they re nice very fast small boats using water-jet. You could use one as your main boat of course, they look so versatile and functional.

This jet-tender is so compact, you could carry it on the roof of a car.

You’d need to be careful loading and unloading it. Here’s one on sale for $22k.

This boat is pretty expensive (over $100k new) but it sure is innovative; it’s by Lazzarini design studio.

Going by that video, you might want to make it your full time residence and just become a seafaring vagabond. Why not eh. That video lays it on pretty thick. But you’re warm and comfy in any climate.

The larger one actually makes an ideal liveaboard, because it’s enclosed and climate controlled. And if you spent $50k or more on a road-based motorhome, why not this boat instead and be in a whole new world.

Make sure you have top security and a large dog on board. Maybe a torpedo just in case?

How about the Sea Breacher (a Rob Innes creation)? This craft could soon be a new sport. But they cost over $80k new so you need to share one in a partnership with 10 others.

It says that distribution and brokerage opportunities are available. Could be a great new biz for a warm sunny location.

This company also makes a Jetovator which costs maybe less than $10k.

The Iguana 29 (very pricey) has track wheels that allow it to ride up on shore and park itself in a normal land garage or parking lot. This is a big plus because a basic limitation of boats is getting them in and out of the water. You need an expensive trailer and you need to find a boat launch, and these are often crowded with parking being scarce. A boat that has its own retractable wheels means you won’t need a trailer. And if self-propels on land, then you can rent parking space nearby for much cheaper than what the marina would charge, plus you have no salt-water corrosion. Cleaning and maintenance are easy.

It looks like this kind of boat could be produced for under $25k some day.

UFO is a living floating house which can move around the world with leisurely maximum speed of 3.5 knots (6.5 km/h, 4 mph), using a waterjet-propelled Torqeedo Deep Blue 1800 electric motor.

This motor is connected to a battery that draws energy generated from 40 sq. m (430 sq. ft.) of solar panels in a closable lid atop the structure.
Additional energy sources can be provided through optional wind and water turbines located on the top and below the main disc of the UFO, respectively, creating enough power to operate the home and motor.

A water generator would be used for converting rain or seawater to fresh drinking water, as well as watering a vegetable garden located on a deck that encircles the structure and measures 12.5 m (41 ft) in diameter.

The spherical-shaped home will consist of a transformable kitchen and dining/living area on a 20-sq. m (215-sq. ft.) top level, with stairs leading down to a 10-sq. m (107-sq. ft.) submerged lower level with bathroom and bedroom surrounded by a large window for viewing sea life.

To keep the craft stable, the UFO uses a special elastic anchor system. “The main structure of the floating object can be aligned with the compass, keeping the position angle oriented on the desired cardinal direction, even in rough sea conditions.

Quadrofoil is a personal-size electric hydrofoil boat, and it’s real quiet which is a bonus in sheltered bays and inlets.

Also it’s only $31k. The range is limited to 75 km. But you could add extra batteries.
